- Sunday June 27th, 2010 - Competitions 10:30 - 4pm; Awards at 4:30
The primary objective of this competition is to build an autonomous robot that can find its way through a set of fixed obstacles, locate an Infra-Red and visible home station beacon and activate a mechanical push-action switch at the home station. This task simulates real-world robot navigation problems using minimal sensors and sophisticated use of software. Participants will learn about robots, navigation, computer programming, enjoy the thrill of competition and have fun. Prizes will be awarded for speed, cleverness, originality and presentation.
There are two divisions available for people to participate in:
- School - Grades K - 12
- Open Only - All ages/grades
The division will depend on the highest grade of any member of the team, excluding the team Mentor. The open category is included as an opportunity for college level and programming professionals to demonstrate to students their sophisticated programming techniques and are expected to produce superior results. The Open division is open to anyone, but the expectation is to include professionals. Open division entrants will compete in all events to show what experts can do, but will not be eligible for prizes. Prizes will be awarded only to School division entrants. A team may enter more than one robot entry and in any Division.
