GET SSET Journal Entrie 8/9/06

Dear Diary: August 9, 2006

“Move in day for the Get SSet program was pretty great all in all. It is always cool to meet new friends and experience new experiences. Today was definitely one of those days where I found it easy to enjoy both of those things. I met my roommate almost first thing this morning. Cierra is a freshman like me. I think that she seems pretty cool and she seems like she will be a fun person to hang around.  Our ice breaker this morning made meeting new people a very funny experience.  I have now learned that for the next four days, I will be surrounded by some excellent dancers. =) Our field trip was definitely memorable as well. It was pretty neat to see all of the science behind the game of golf.  It seems like there are an awesome group of girls in this program. I really think that these next four days will be fun.  I am looking forward to the many adventures coming up soon! Goodnight!”

“Today was pretty much surreal. I got here and was totally overwhelmed about the fact that I didn’t know anyone.  After a little while, I got into the swing of things.  I have made some friends and I think that will help me the next few days.  The class that we took in the morning was cool.  I never really thought of how complex the movements that we do really are.  When we went to Titleist, I thought it was going to be more boring than it actually was.  The food here is alright, not my favorite, but ok.  It was cool talking to women who are in the field I want to study.  It gave me perspective on things.  All in all, it was a pretty busy day.”

“Today we started the Get SSet program.  First, we had a little discussion about what we would be doing. Also, we introduced ourselves to one another and had fun doing it.  Then we went to a classroom and did an icebreaker activity and started our first lesson.  Then we had lunch and just relaxed for about an hour and got to know one another better.  Then we unpacked and went to career panel.  Career panel was fun because it was about women who made it in their career.  And that’s what we did on our first day of the program.”

“Today I met my roommate in Get SSet.  It’s been fun so far.  Well, there’s been a couple of boring parts, but it’s alright.  The food is very good and the football players and other sport people eat all the food.  Other than that, it’s all fun.  Did you know you don’t call them dorms anymore, but some big word that I really don’t care for.  The people who look after us are very fun, loud, and really out there, especially Megan.  We met a lot of important women who have great careers.  I think it’s a good program and it’s fun.”

“Today was a really great day.  We went to Oceanside this morning to a place where they research golf and do lots of golf stuff called Titleist.  We then went to dinner and came back to meet eight women who have done a really outstanding job in their lives.  They are even married and have kids, but only one or two.  They have amazing jobs that I would like to have.  Today was a really fun day because I met new friends and got to be with some girls from school.”

“Today was awesome.  It was actually better that I expected.  I thought maybe some of the things would be boring, but I was surprised.  My favorite part was meeting my roommate.  It was an awesome experience; it’s like the sixth grade camp I never had.  It’s my first time away from home like this.  I’m really excited for what’s in store for these next few days.  Meeting the women from the career panel was also really awesome.  It gave me pride knowing that we women can excel in life.  I can’t wait for tomorrow!”

“Today was a fun day.  I got to meet new people and I made new friends.  We got to go watch golf, and things that can help you improve your swing.  Then we got to settle into our rooms and get acquainted with everyone.  So later on we got to meet eight successful women.  They talked about how they got where they are and how many years of college they had to go through to get to their jobs.  Today was interesting and exciting.  I can’t wait until tomorrow.
