Oct. 14, 2006 – Get
in the Swim! – University of San Diego,
Dr. Sue Lowery Did you know that fish show different swimming
behaviors? This workshop offers you the opportunity to
study fish performance under a variety of different current
speeds in a hydrodynamic flume (fish treadmill). Learn
how the fins and muscles power swimming by observing the fish
and examining high speed video. Fish dissections will
show you how muscles are arranged to power both steady and
sprint swimming. [Grades 10 –12] (Nov. 11 is Part II) — Slide

farming. From egg to juvenile, what do different types of
fish need to eat? How do you keep the fish healthy and unstressed?
If you make them exercise, will the fish grow faster? You will
get to help with water quality monitoring tests, fish growth measurements,
and use a microscope to view fish larvae or fish pathogens. (This
is Part II of the Oct. 14 workshop) (Keri Maul, aquaculturalist & Sue
Lowery) [grades 10–12] – Slideshow
