Butterfly Day Field Trip

Brief Description:
Students spend 30 minutes inside our classrom learning about butterfly biology, plant animal relationships, predator and prey defense mechanisms, and environmental concerns. The topics are developmentally appropriate and include discussion for each age group with verbal lessons, slide/video prsentations, exhibits and hands-on activities. After the lesson, children spend 30 minutes inside the Butterfly Vivarium, experiencing everything they learned in the classrom. The complete metamorphosis: egg, caterpillar, chrysalis, to adult butterfly, is continually available for students to examine.

4 one hour classes a day, M- F may be arranged by special request.

Best time to visit is April through November.

Classroom Caterpillar Kits: Various specifies of butterfly caterpillars are offered to teachers to use in the classroom. The most popular is the monarch butterfly. A six inch pot with milkweed plants, two monarach caterpillars and directions are available for $12.
