Organization Profile:
Southwestern College is the southernmost community college in California, located about ten miles from the U.S./Mexican border. Southwestern College is part of the California Community College System, which is the largest system of higher education in the world. There are approximately 17,000 students who attend each semester, many on a part-time basis.
The mission of Southwestern College is to meets the needs of its culturally and educationally diverse student population by:
1. Preparing students for transfer to senior institutions with a background to succeed.
2. Providing students with a sound foundation to meet the requirements of their chosen vocation.
3. Contributing to the ability of students to function in an increasingly technological world.
4. Providing a positive experience for those students seeking personal enrichment.
Another primary mission is to advance California's economic growth and global competitiveness through education, training, and services that contribute to continuous work force improvement.
Southwestern college has many attributes. The campus is a blend of southwest and Aztec design with rolling grass-covered hills and beautiful stately eucalyptus and jacaranda trees. It has an ambiance of peacefulness. Southwestern College's greatest strength is its people and the sense of community that is reflected in its traditions. There are many opportunities for personal growth, reflection, and sharing.
