Birch Aquarium's MARE Summer Workshop for Teachers/Educators

Description:
Join us at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography (SIO) campus and Birch Aquarium for this exciting opportunity to participate in classroom and field experiences that will highlight Southern California's marine habitats. Sandy beach exploration and plankton collection off the Scripps pier with world-class marine researchers along with daily instruction in ocean science content and hands-on activities from UC Berkeley's award winning MARE curriculum. Instruction includes inquiry-based science teaching strategies; language and reading literacy through science instruction; addressing the needs of Ell; and effective field-based activities for students. This workshop is for those interested in effectively implementing more inquiry-based science instruction in their classroom, becoming a Teacher Leader for the MARE program within their school district or informal science institution, or to help their school or district organize and plan for the improvement of science instruction.

Workshop fee of $350 includes $100 in grade-level specific curriculum materials, lunch, snack, all field work and special events. Scholarships are available for those who demonstrate a need.
