Introduction to Maya and 3D Modeling
Open to high school students in grades 9-12.
June 23-27, 2008
Class meets at the SDSC Training room from 8:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. daily.
Course Overview:
This course will provide an introduction to using Maya to create computer animations. Students will be given a comprehensive introduction to the various components of the Maya software package; including Modeling, Animating, Rendering, and Lighting. An introduction to Maya's MEL scripting language will also be given.
Topics to be covered:
* Program interface and workflow philosophy
* Dependency Graph
* Nodes and attributes
* Modeling tools and foundation workflows
* Animation tools
* Principles and workflows
* Basic character rigging
* Shading and texturing foundations
* Lighting and rendering
* Dynamics and particles
* VFX and production workflows
* Dependencies and principles
Who Should Attend:
The workshop is designed for students interested in the creation of new media content, such as web design and graphics, game development, animations, visual effects, visualization, and computer graphics in general.
Course fee: $265.00. Registration deadline: May 30, 2008. Space is limited to 15 participants.

Introduction to Flash Animation Creation for the Web
Open to middle and high school students in grades 7-12.
July 7-9, 2008
Class meets at the SDSC Training room from 8:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. daily.
Workshop Overview:
This course addresses the basic concept of Flash and how to animate graphics within Flash. Motion Tween and Shape Tween are demonstrated along with how to add sound and video to your animation. Additional animation techniques covered include adding buttons, creating non-linear movies, and mouse-tracking. The various drawing tools are also demonstrated.
Topics to be covered:
* Introduction to the Interface
* Saving, Opening Templates, Publishing
* Working with Layers
* Simple Frame by Frame Animation
* Motion, Shape and Transparency Tweening
* Adding Buttons, Sound and Video
* Working with Bitmap and Vector Graphics
* Some ActionScript
