TeacherTECH Science Series- Discovering Data In the Classroom: The Discover Data Portal for Educators

Middle School, High School, and College Educators are invited to attend our April TeacherTECH Science Series workshop focused on using the Discover Data Portal as a tool in your classroom.

Wednesday, April 16, 2008
4:30pm - 6:30pm
San Diego Supercomputer Center
Training Room
University of California, San Diego

Workshop Description:
Finding real scientific data that can be used easily and effectively in the classroom can be difficult. The Discover Data Portal is a new educational resource that builds lessons around scientific data from a variety of scientific disciplines to make it easier for teachers to introduce their students to the wonders of science anchored in a real-world approach to learning. Join us for this introductory workshop where you will be the first teachers to be given permanent accounts on the portal, and where you will have access to the first series of scientific datasets prepared just for you.

You will be introduced to a series of lessons based on data sets drawn from marine science, biology, earth science, and astronomy. You will also get a glimpse of a prototype interactive data mapping tool which will allow teachers and their students to upload and share data collected from any source in their environment. Be the first to provide feedback on how this tool might be useful to you in your classroom.

Please join us for an exciting and informative session of hands-on learning presented by Jeff Sale, San Diego Supercomputer Center.

Registration is free. Space is limited. Please contact Ange Mason at 858-534-5064 or amason@ucsd.edu to reserve your space.
