Engaging in Earth's Energy - A workshop for High School Teachers
In celebration of the International Polar Year (IPY), the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center and Jet Propulsion Laboratory are seeking high school earth science teachers to participate in a 2-day professional development workshop entitled, “Engaging in Earth’s Energy -- E3”.
E3 will explore the influence of the polar regions on the Earth’s climate, environments, and ecosystems (see H.S. Earth Science Standard Sets 5 & 6).
* Day one of the workshop will include interaction with polar researchers/educators and hands-on investigations designed to build participants’ conceptual understanding of these topics.
* Day two of the workshop will include opportunities for teacher participants to apply this knowledge to create, revise, and/or adapt polar- and energy-related classroom activities. Finished classroom lessons and activities will be shared with teachers nationwide.
This workshop will be held on Wednesday August 22, 2007 and Thursday August 23, 2007 from 8:30am to 3:30pm. Upon completion of both days of the workshop, participating teachers will receive a $350 stipend. Teachers must participate in both days of the workshop to receive the stipend.
Please consider sharing your talents and time in this globally impacting opportunity!
