Biogen Idec Community Lab Summer Institute for 7th Grade Teachers
August 6 - 8, 2007
7th Grade Life Science Teachers are invited to attend the Biogen Idec Community Lab Summer Institute for Teachers. The Community Lab is a dedicated laboratory classroom within the San Diego research campus of Biogen Idec, a world-leading biotechnology company, where area students and teachers can engage in hands-on laboratory experiences alongside biotechnology professionals.
This paid program includes compensation for completion of the Institute in the form of a $500 stipend. Participation requires full attendance from 9:00 am - 4:00 pm each day, Monday through Wednesday, and includes lunch and first priority to bring your class to the Biogen Idec Community Lab during the school year.
During the Institute, you will have the opportunity to:
* Engage in biotech laboratory experiences developed by Biogen Idec researchers, science teachers and education leaders, and aligned to California Science Standards and local curriculum.
* Learn about the biotechnology industry and tour a world-class discovery research facility.
* Learn about the wide variety of careers available to your students in a biotechnology company.
* Network with fellow teachers and industry professionals.
This institute has been developed as a pre-requisite for 7th grade science teachers wishing to bring their classes to the Community Lab during the 2007-2008 school year. Additional information on scheduling for the Community Lab will be available only to those who complete the Institute.
