TeacherTECH 2007 Summer Workshop Offerings
Each summer, the San Diego Supercomputer Center offers summer technology training workshops for K-12 educators on topics ranging from science to math to engineering and technology. Our workshops are taught in a fun, relaxed atmosphere with expert instructors and plenty of assistance.
Computer Mapping: Integrating Spatial Data Sets Into Classroom Curriculums-- July 9-13, 2007
This five-day workshop will teach you the basics of using computer mapping software platforms in your classroom. We will explore the ins and outs of two GIS software platforms, Arc Explorer Java Edition for Education (AEJEE) and ArcGIS 9.2. We will have some fun with GPS technology and introduce you to creative ways to use Google Earth in the classroom. Students today are intrigued and easily engaged with the use of spatial mapping tools. Learn how to tap into their skills and unstoppable curiosity as you align these cutting edge tools to standards based curriculum.

Beginning Podcasting for Educators-- July 16, 2007
This workshop is for teachers who want to gain knowledge about podcasting, an emerging technology that is becoming popular with learners and teachers of the 21st century. In this two-part course, you will learn what is podcasting and its benefits in education, how to download and listen to podcasts, how to create and publish a podcast using GarageBand, how to access your published podcast and how to incorporate podcasting into your curriculum.

Incorporating Technology into Your Math Classroom-- July 17, 2007
This workshop is for math teachers who want to gain knowledge on how to effectively incorporate technology into their middle school mathematics classroom with a focus on standards and with an edge towards the millennial generation. This workshop will focus on using and incorporating visual manipulativves,BrainPop™ videos, SMART™ technologies, online math resources, and lesson plan creation.

Advanced SMART™ Interactive White Board Training-- July 18-19, 2007
The two-day SMART™ workshop will be lead by a SMART™ exemplary educator and is intended for teachers who want to master the fundamentals of the SMART™ Notebook software. By the end of the two days you will have learned how to incorporate SMART™ notebook and ideas into you existing curriculum while having the time to prepare lessons and or a unit to be used in your classroom.

Intermediate Podcasting for Educators-- July 23-24, 2007
In this workshop, we will explore the world of podcasting, use iTunes to find podcasts of interest, create an audio podcast, and find copyright-free music to include in it. As a bonus, we'll "play" with a video iPod and learn how to upload your podcast to a video iPod. Participants explore the characteristics that make up a quality podcast and learn how to develop their own podcasting script. This is a session for people familiar with podcasts and the process of creating them, but wanting more information about sharing podcasts.

iMovie™ for the 21st Century Teacher-- July 25, 2007
Learn the basics of iMovie and practical classroom applications. You will be provided with instruction on video production and video editing using Mac software. You will learn how to create, edit and share an iMovie from start to finish and will leave with a CD-ROM of your completed video. Topics for this workshop may be focused on a variety of content areas. Classroom examples and take away lesson ideas will be provided.
