Dr. James Newman Selected as Keynote Speaker for the San Diego Society of Hispanic Engineers' 2008 Scholarship and Awards Gala
NASA Astronaut, Dr. James Newman, will be the Keynote for the San Diego Society of Hispanic Engineers Annual Scholarship and Awards Gala. The Gala honors the Student members of University of California, San Diego, San Diego State, City College and Southwestern College for their scholarship, contributions to SHPE and their communities.
This year’s event will be held at the Holiday Inn on the Bay on Saturday, May 31st from 6:00 pm. SHPE San Diego President Liza Lopez, expressed elation upon receiving word of Dr. Newman’s acceptance to serve as the Keynote Speaker.
Dr. Newman considers San Diego his home. The veteran of four space flights, he was selected by NASA in 1990. He earned his degree in Physics from Dartmouth College and his PhD in Physics from Rice University. Since 2006, he has taught at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterrey, CA.
