Teacher Summer Internship
Come and join us for a summer of fun at Birch Aquarium at Scripps. We are currently looking for K-12 teachers to assist us with our Summer Learning Adventures Summer Camps. Earn UCSD extension credits while gaining informal education experience on-site at the aquarium and off-site at local beaches. Teacher completing our internship will received $150 voucher to use towards booking a school program for the 2008-09 school year.
Requirements:
* Must attend training – June 16-20, 2008; M-W 9:00 am-3:30 pm, Th-F 8:30 am-3:30 pm
* Must be a current K-12 teacher in San Diego County
* Complete 75 hours of work
* Must have reliable transportation
* Must submit a final report and evaluation of the summer internship
Choose from 1 of 3 sessions:
Session A: July 7-11 and July 14-18; 9:30 am-3:30 pm
Session B: July 28- August 1 and August 4-8; 9:30 am-3:30 pm
Session C: August 11-15 and August 18-22; 9:30 am-3:30 pm
Qualifications:
* Passionate, outgoing and curious about the ocean and conservation issues
* Excellent communication and organizational skills
* Enjoys working interactively as part of a team
* Dependable, cooperative and self-motivated
* Interested in informal education
* Willingness to get wet and sandy and to handle small animals
Objectives:
* Provide unique teaching opportunities to formal teaching professionals
* Expose teachers to new resources and activities that can then be adapted to their classrooms
* Provide opportunities for teachers to interact and team-teach with informal educators
* Share strategies for teaching marine science in the classroom and in the field
* Provide a unique opportunity for professional development
* Build new connections with formal education teachers in our community
