SAVE THE DATE: September 25, 2008 is Stem Cell Awareness Day
Dear science teacher:
The California Institute for Regenerative Medicine, the state stem cell agency, is hosting Stem Cell Awareness Day September 25. CIRM is offering two programs that day to the state’s schools and after school programs that aim to foster greater understanding about stem cell research and the range of potential application for disease and injury.
At 8:00 that morning CIRM will provide a live webcast of a program on juvenile diabetes featuring lay-level discussion with a stem cell scientist, a clinician and a patient.
You can view the session live at: http://earth.ucsd.edu:8080/ramgen/broadcast/2008_09_25_stemcell.rm
Or, you can view it later at this archive site: http://earth.ucsd.edu:8080/ramgen/cirm/2008_09_25_stemcell.rm
Also, from 3:00-5:00 that afternoon CIRM will be offering afterschool programs the chance to log into a moderated live chat with stem cell scientists. Students will be able to pose questions to half a dozen top stem cell scientists standing by their computers around the state. The landing page for this chat will have links to a “stem cells 101” primer to help students think about questions as well as a 20 minute video overview of the field featuring UC San Diego’s Dr. Larry Goldstein.
To log into this chat on the 25th, go to: http://www.vodium.com/goto/cirm/stemcell.asp
Please feel free to share this information with others who may wish to participate and call if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
Don L. Gibbons Chief Communications Officer, 415-396-9117
