Workshop Overview: From bioluminescent corals to deep vent worms, from tropical underwater volcanoes to the Arctic Ocean floor, we know more about the Moon than our ocean. Bring the excitement of current ocean science discoveries to your students using NOAA Ocean Exploration lesson plan activities and the Ocean Explorer Web site . Join Stacia Fletcher from the Monterey Bay Aquarium, as you do inquiry- and standards-based activities* tied directly to REAL ocean expeditions. Experience these multidisciplinary ocean discovery voyages using “new technological eyes” to study earth and life science on the ocean floor. Use these inquiry-based activities in biology, earth, physical, and marine science courses to connect your students to the excitement of NOAA Ocean Exploration as they travel from the Galapagos Rift to the Arctic Ocean, from Alaskan and New England seamounts to those in the Hawaiian Islands.

What’s in it for me?: In addition to learning about this fantastic program, participants will receive a continental breakfast; lunch; the curriculum, Learning Ocean Science through Ocean Exploration with CD-ROM’s; Certificates of Participation; prizes, and more.

*Over 200 lesson plan activities are available on the Ocean Explorer Web site. Activities generally require few materials to implement and all are aligned to National Science Education Standards.

**Note: This is one day of a two day workshop series. If you attend the second day on Saturday, January 31, 2009 you will be eligible for a $100 stipend for attending both days in their entirety.
